Pattern 1008 Spode bone china Bute shape Coffee Can introduced c1806.  This design looks like cornice plaster moulding, was someone staring at the ceiling wondering what idea to come up with next?  The iron-red looks more orange again but the interesting thing here is the simplicity of the design.
Please don't mention the damage, it was entirely my fault & it occurred when it was in a display cabinet.  I feel terrible that this lovely can had survived intact for over 200 years before I came along.  It is a great shame.
All hand-painted & with lovely rich gilding
Obviously it will have to sit this way round in future
A small speck of kiln dust & scratches to the orange enamel & gilt
There are usually one or two very tiny specks inside Spode's coffee cans of this date & this one is no exception
No pattern number or worker's marks on this can of c1806
