Pattern 1019 Spode bone china Bute shape Coffee Can decorated in another iron-red 'Pluck & Dust' printed design introduced in 1806.  This pattern is known as P502-2 'Red plants & Insects' and was printed in iron-red with gilt edges.  Unusually this design was not illustrated in the Spode Pattern Books but merely described as above so it is great to see an actual example of this pattern.
A lovely gilt & kinked handle
There was much interest in the natural world and publications of the time specialised in all manner of subjects & in great deal.  This pattern uses prints of Insects, Butterflies, Moths & Sea Shells.
The 'red plants' were illustrations taken from Curtis' Botanical Magazine, the longest running botanical periodical featuring colour illustrations of plants of particular interest to botanists, horticulturists & porcelain decorators, which has been continuously running since 1787.
A little bit of wear to the gilding & a slight couple of smudges inside
This coffee can is unmarked to its clean looking base of c1806.
