
Pattern 1020 Spode bone china Bute shape Coffee Can introduced c1806. We have seen a similar 'white daisy' design (possibly an Oriental Lotus flower) previously in pattern 878 and as the year is 1806 the colour has to be RED. I don't know why red was so popular at this time, perhaps it was regarded as a patriotic colour as the UK was in the mists of the Napoleonic Wars.

Slight wear to the gilding at the base of the kinked handle

This is a more labour saving design. It would still have had impact but you can see that it wouldn't have took quite as long to complete the hand-painting as there isn't the fiddly fine detail like some previous designs.

This is a bold design which can be completed quickly by skilled decorators
