Pattern 1038 Spode bone china Bute shape Coffee Can decorated in a simple design with a border of gilt & black enamel spots.  This design was introduced c1806 & I have also seen a similar design with red spots (pattern 1042) which was an easy variation to make.  I'm sure the focus of Spode's designs at this time was to show off how beautifully white their porcelain was, it was much better than any other UK manufacturer of this period.
By consistently using the same kinked handle & gilding pattern down the handle Spode was advertising his bone china porcelain to all potential customers.  It has always been easy to recognise early Spode wares which cannot be said for many other manufacturers whose shapes & gilding patterns varied with the wind.  Josiah Spode II was a very astute businessman/retailer & he was developing the Spode brand.
A couple of specks of stray kiln dust
Clean inside with just a little wear to the gilding on the top rim
Still no pattern number or worker's marks on the base of this Spode Coffee Can c1806.
