Pattern 1220 Spode bone china Coffee Can in another hand-painted Imari design very similar to their previous pattern number 1216. This time the flowers and foliage are not set within gilded reserves & the decorative panels at either side are rectangular and look like an Eastern carpet which could transport Aladdin away. This design was also introduced at Spode c1808.

I like these Arabesque scrolls in the 'carpet' motif, something similar can be seen on pattern 1566

A smudge of blue cobalt has found its way in, factory environments in 1808 were nothing like today's.

Again no maker's or decorator's marks on the base

A pattern 1220 Spode New Oval shape bone china Creamer in good condition.

There is very little wear to this piece.

It is usually possible to find stray enamel spots & kiln dust specks in fact it is rare to NOT find them on early Spode porcelain.

There is also a stray pale smudge of cobalt blue enamel

Here on the creamer's lip the porcelain has split slightly whilst firing, it doesn't go all the way through and the fault has been gilded over.

This creamer has an interesting Josiah Spode II mark impressed into the side of the base, it is the letter 'S'. I have a pattern 506 Spode Creamer (illustrated) with this same impressed mark. The blue enamel is possibly just a smudge.
