Pattern 1270 Spode bone china Bute shape Tea Cup decorated in a beautiful pale turquoise enamel similar to a Starling's egg, this design was introduced c1808. It would appear that Henry Daniels' decorators struggled with this colour as it seems to change appearance around the cup but the gilding shows great skill.
The usual Spode kinked handle decorated in solid gilt
I have not seen this style of gilding previously on a Spode piece. It makes me think of cupid's gilt arrows.
This is a difficult colour to pin down, sometimes appearing more turquoise than blue & here it has areas of greyness.
A little staining inside
No makers marks on its base but the quality speaks of Josiah Spode II & Henry Daniel
What a beauty
