Pattern 1660 Spode bone china 'Dolphin' embossed Sauce Boat or Cream Bowl with swan handles & finial, it is hand-painted with floral sprays & finished with gilt lining & highlights. This design was introduced c1810-1811.
The first pattern number which was decorated with 'Dolphin' embossed was number 1655 and although this form of decoration continued until c1815 it never became popular and is consequently one of the rarest embossed patterns produced by Spode.
Still looking rather regal despite the 200+ years & the wear to the gilding at its base rim
Just one small area of staining inside otherwise it looks nice & clean
This Spode Tureen is clearly marked to its base with its pattern number 1660 in iron red enamel.
