Pattern 2016 Spode bone china Double Indented shape Dinner Plate in a very pretty design introduced c1813. The Spode double indented shape dinner plates were introduced c1809. The flowers in the circular reserves are all hand-painted. I think they are pink roses, rust & mauve chrysanthemums and a mauve opium poppy sits at the centre of the plate.
The blue ground pattern was achieved by transfer printing a sheet pattern known as 'Parsley' onto the plate leaving spaces for the floral reserves. This sheet pattern was used mainly on Spode creamware pieces from c1810 onwards although I have seen it on Spode bone china as early as 1807. It was a very popular pattern that was used for many years after the date of its introduction.
This plate is not marked to its base in any way which is more unusual for c1813 Spode pieces. I recognised it as a Spode plate because I had seen the sheet pattern on other Spode pieces and the Spode Museum Trust kindly authenticated it & supplied its pattern number through their Identification Service.
