Pattern 2251 Spode bone china Large Saucer Dish (also known as a Bread & Butter Plate) is another Imari design similar to pattern 1839 but with a different centre & colour variation.  This beautifully hand-painted design was introduced c1815, the year the wars with France & America finished.
This Spode Saucer Dish is the smaller of the two, it measures between 7.0 & 7.25 inches in diameter, or about 18 cms.  There are a couple of tiny marks on its rim, one at 7 o'clock & the other between 9 & 10 o'clock and both were in the making & have been gilded over.
You can see how pure white Josiah Spode II's bone china was & how the hand-painted enamels & gilding looked so good against it.
This dish has 'SPODE' & its pattern number '2251' in red enamel to its base.  You can see that the word SPODE is an interesting mix of capital letters & script letters.
This Spode Saucer Dish came to me from Albert Amor, Antique Porcelain Dealer of St James, London SW1Y 6AU.
