Pattern 2533 Spode bone china Bute shape Coffee Can introduced c1816. Notice that this Spode can is slightly tapered more like a bucket shape; I have come across several similar examples from around this period.
This pattern is decorated with a wide band of pale lavender blue enamel to the top half of the coffee can which has been applied over 'Swag Embossed' moulding & it has been further embellished with gilt on the raised areas of the design plus gilt bands below. This pale lavender blue enamel is very popular c1816.
You can see the usual Spode handle here with its kink & gilt decoration plus another delightful & matching gilt band on the inside of the can.
This 'Swag Embossed' design is quite rare. You can see another example of Spode's 'Swag Embossed' decoration on pattern 1923 (illustrated).
Some kiln dust inside but otherwise this is a stunning piece of bone china
This Spode coffee can is marked to its base with both 'SPODE' & its pattern number '2533' in red enamel together with an old collector's label. The base looks very clean.
I have just discovered that the National Trust for Scotland has a hoard of this porcelain in Spode's pattern 2533 (a 32 piece collection of Tea/Coffee Service wares) which can be seen in the parlour at The Georgian House, Edinburgh & also on their Facebook page, entry 18th February (cleaning the ceramics). Here is a link to the Georgian House but you cannot see these items online at this address: https://www.nts.org.uk/visit/places/georgian-house
Searching the internet for 'The Georgian House, Edinburgh Spode' also brings up a couple of photographs of this collection.
