Pattern 368 Spode bone china Bute shape Coffee Can decorated with a meandering gilt 'vine' with red & black fruits. This richly gilt design was introduced by Josiah Spode II c1802.

Spode's signature gilding pattern down the kinked handle

This delightful coffee can is well over 200 years old & you won't find many like this around, no matter how hard you search! The previous owners had been collecting early Spode ceramics for the last 30 years.

Lovely condition

Surprisingly clear inside for early Spode bone china & very little wear to the gilding around the top rim.

I can see a large speck of kiln dust on this coffee can base & another smaller piece on the handle but other than these it is very clean. The base is unmarked; no pattern number or manufacturer's name or decorator's mark which was usual for extremely early 19th century Spode pieces. There is however, an old collector's label which I like to retain. I enjoy knowing who the previous caretakers of an object were.
