Pattern 443 Spode bone china Bute shape Coffee Can with a simple, hand decorated gilt design produced by Josiah Spode II c1802
This gilding pattern down the handle was regularly used by Spode although other manufacturers also produced similar designs, Coalport in particular used a similar gilding pattern on its handles although Coalport's version very often did not have the gilt dots down the centre; but to add confusion, sometimes it did.
The kink of the handle is quite large on this can, they did become smaller and less kinked before the Bute shape coffee can design became unfashionable and was replaced by the London shape coffee cup which was introduced c1813.
By c1818 Spode's London shape for both tea & coffee cups was much more popular than their Bute shape. So these pretty porcelain coffee cans were only in design production from around 1800-1820, any that appeared later were generally reproductions of earlier popular Spode designs.
