Pattern 560 Spode bone china Bute shape Coffee Can hand decorated with gilt sprigs to its outside & a cobalt blue band with further gilding around the inside top rim. Josiah Spode II introduced this pattern at Spode c1803. He liked to show off his beautifully white porcelain and cobalt blue & gilt certainly did just that.
The usual Spode gilding on the kinked handle
Decorated with gilt sprigs on its outside
All this opulent gilding on cobalt blue enamel would have looked sensational by candlelight. I haven't taken a photograph of the base of this can yet but it does have the pattern number '560' written on it in gilt so it is an early piece.
