Pattern 671 Spode bone china Bute shape Coffee Can produced by Josiah Spode II c1804. The design is typical of the Age of Enlightenment Era with ancient classical Greek or Roman influence. Hand-painted scrolling & stylised Acanthus leaf, here in iron-red enamel & gilt, was used for various forms of decoration including architecture.
A solidly gilt handle on the outside edge
This is a very opulent & pleasing design which again shows off the beauty of Josiah Spode II's pure white bone china porcelain
A Scent Jar in this same pattern can be seen in the Spode Museum Collection here: http://www.spodemuseumtrust.org/history-of-spode.html
Still looking good after all these years, well done to all previous owners!
No marks on the base of this coffee can which was quite usual at this time.
